Who we are
Hi, I’m Sonia, founder of Powers Counselling & Life Skills Development.
I support children (9+), youth, and adults navigating the complexities of modern life through Walk & Talk counselling and outreach life skills support.
Rooted in trauma-informed care, my approach is highly relational and developmentally attuned to foster emotional resilience and personal growth, all at your own pace, in real-world settings.

Walk & Talk Counselling
Walk & Talk Counselling offers a nature-based, experiential approach for children (9+), youth, and adults. Walking side-by-side in nature helps ease social pressure, regulate the nervous system, and foster a grounded sense of presence. As therapist Jennifer Udler notes in Walk and Talk Therapy, the combination of movement and the natural world can deepen connection and enhance emotional processing. Sessions may include body scans, breathwork, reflective dialogue, nature-based play, or inner child work—gently tailored to each person’s pace and needs. This approach invites healing through movement, connection, and authentic self-expression.
-
Virtual Counselling
Virtual and phone counselling provide accessible, flexible support for youth and young adults who are unable to attend in-person sessions. Nature remains part of the process through guided visualizations, breathwork, and somatic practices that support nervous system regulation and emotional healing. Clients are invited to connect with nature imagery and their own inner landscape. This approach helps address anxiety, grief, and disconnection, while ensuring care remains grounded, relational, and effective—no matter where sessions take place.
-
Child & Youth Outreach
Outreach is a powerful, relational intervention that allows practitioners to meet young people in their own life spaces—whether in parks, at schools, or in community settings—where connection is lived, not prescribed. This approach is rooted in Child and Youth Care values, which emphasize relational practice, rhythm, presence, and doing with rather than for or to (Krueger, 2000; Phelan, 2009).
Outreach is an ideal fit for children and youth (ages 9-18) who aren’t ready for counselling but feel supported just by having someone show up, hang out, and connect—no pressure, no expectations.

Life Skills Development
For Youth:
The emPowers Life Skills Program is designed to help young people ages 14 to 24 develop the skills and confidence necessary for self-sufficiency. It provides hands-on outreach support in life skill areas such as budgeting, cooking, job readiness, and educational advocacy. Whether young people need support in independent living or help finding the right resources, the program aims to guide them toward a strong and successful future.
For Professionals:
emPowers partners with professionals to support young people’s transition plans and S.M.A.R.T goals. Working alongside youth and their teams ensures consistent support tailored to each individual's path toward adulthood.
